The risks associated with coronavirus have led to some adjustments in how we will be operating, in order to prioritise your safety, and the safety of our team.
Our changes follow scientific advice, consultations with employees at all levels, and are inline with the recommendations of health & safety advisers and UK Hospitality (our trade association).
Risk assessments have been carried out for our new pub layout, inside and out, so you can dine in comfortable surroundings, knowing we are prepared for every eventuality.
Full training has been provided for all staff on all changes, and while it will take a little while to get used to the new way of operating, we are confident our brilliant team have what it takes.
Below are some commonly asked questions that may be of use. If you are still unsure about visiting, please contact us and we will endeavour to be as helpful as possible.
HOW WILL YOU COLLECT INFORMATION FOR NHS TEST & TRACE?
The government has asked pubs and other hospitality venues, when they reopen, to collect and maintain records of customers and share them, where requested, with NHS Test and Trace. This is so that NHS Test and Trace can identify and inform those who may have been exposed to COVID-19, having been in close contact with somebody who has tested positive for the virus. All customers, or the lead member of a customer group, will be asked to provide their name, address and contact number on arrival, or when making a booking.
HOW WILL MY DETAILS BE USED?
The NHS Test and Trace forms will be collected throughout the day and stored confidentially by the pub team. The forms will be securely destroyed after 21 days. Customers’ details will not be stored electronically or shared with any third party, except NHS Test and Trace, if it requests them within the 21-day retention period. By providing your details, you are consenting to their release by Wetherspoon to NHS Test and Trace. Your data protection rights will apply.
CAN I ORDER AT THE BAR OR IS IT TABLE SERVICE ONLY?
Customers are able to order at a till, but must leave the bar immediately after paying, and are generally discouraged from doing so. We are operating a table service only policy, so if you do need to pay at the bar, we will bring your drinks to you right away.
DO I NEED TO BOOK A TABLE TO VISIT?
No. We will always have a designated staff member to stay at the entrance door, welcome our guests inside, and explain proceedings to them.
With capacity restricted, we may be full up a lot quicker, but our new opening times are are designed to encourage more staggered bookings to avoid overbooking.
WILL YOU PROVIDE PPE FOR STAFF?
Non-medical face-coverings, protective eyewear, visors and gloves will be made available, on request. PPE will be required for staff working in kitchens or other areas, on occasion, where there might be confined spaces. This is determined by our risk assessment.
Will you provide hand-sanitisers for staff and customers?
Hand-sanitiser stations will be visible on arrival, and will be detailed by our hostess. These will be positioned at the entrance, the bar, outside toilets and at other locations. We will have 4 - 7 stations available at all times.
How will you keep the pubs clean?
We have developed a strict cleaning rota for every area of the pub. Each section will be off limits in intervals to allow a total sanitise, and we are reserving a section for OAP customers and the particularly vulnerable to dine in comfort.
Dedicated employees will be available to clean and sanitise the pub, including the toilets. Tables will be cleared and sanitised after use.
How will you protect your staff?
Staff will be required to complete a health assessment before starting work on each occasion, and staff will be working in consistent teams (team bubbles).
The bar will be arranged into dedicated work stations to better enable employees to work within safe distancing guidance. Where possible, only one employee will be assigned to each till. A hand-sanitiser station/hand-washing area will be located behind the bar.
Customers ordering at the bar will be required to do so at a designated till point. The remainder of the bar won’t be accessible.
HOW WILL YOU MANAGE SOCIAL DISTANCING IN THE KITCHEN?
The kitchen risk assessment details the control measures introduced.
A maximum capacity of kitchen team members, without the necessity for PPE, will be set and displayed prominently for each kitchen. In certain circumstances, mandatory use of face-coverings will be a required control measure, based on kitchen occupancy.
Kitchen doors will be pinned open, wherever possible, to increase air flow and reduce hand contact points.
WHAT MEASURES ARE YOU TAKING TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THE CUSTOMERS?
Furniture will be removed, or rearranged, to facilitate social distancing.
Signage will be plentiful, asking customers to refrain from moving any furniture and to assist with social distancing.
Hand-sanitiser stations will be located at optimum points, and there will be regular sanitising of contact points during trading hours. Tables will be clear of all marketing material, and additional emphasis will be placed on serving drinks by holding the base of the glass, and reducing contact with tableware wherever possible
WILL MENUS BE USED FOR MULTIPLE CUSTOMERS?
We will be using single use, recyclable menus.
HOW WILL YOU MANAGE GROUPS OF CUSTOMERS?
Through the use of extensive signage, customers will be reminded about social-distancing guidelines.
We are discouraging large groups. If customers do arrive in a large group or attempt to congregate in the pub after arrival, they will be asked to disperse around the pub, if capacity allows, or leave the premises.
Our hostess will be directing customers from the moment they arrive, and informing them of our new systems.
WILL YOPUR GARDEN BE SET UP FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING?
Our new garden will be set up with the same social-distancing measures as internally.
To avoid congestion, smoking will not be permitted around any entrance/exit doors.
Where possible, the designated external smoking area will be clearly marked to aid with social distancing.
WHAT PAYMENT METHODS WILL YOU BE ACCEPTING?
When paying at the bar, contactless payments will be encouraged, with the limit increased to £45 for cards (Apple/Google Pay £100). This will be promoted at the till point. Cash will still be accepted through a reduced number of tills.
